Equipping, supporting and sending lay caregivers, to provide Christian care to those experiencing a crisis so that care receivers might experience God’s redemptive healing love.
What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is one of the many ways First United Methodist Church provides high-quality care and outreach to hurting people in our congregation and community.
Stephen Ministers are lay people who have gone through 50 hours of training to provide one-on-one, Christ-centered care and support to individuals experiencing a difficult time in life. Each Stephen Minister is matched up with a person of the same gender. They meet weekly with the person to listen, care, pray, and encourage. Stephen Ministers care for those dealing with grief, divorce, job loss, loneliness, convalescence, terminal illness coping with miscarriage, dealing with stress, chronic illness, feeling hopeless, cancer victim, financial problems, spiritual crisis, and many other life difficulties.
