Thursday, June 21st – Fort Gibson Historical Site
Fort Gibson, before the city was settled, was a military site that began guarding the American frontier in 1824 and succeeded in its peacekeeping mission for decades. It now is a National Historic Landmark encompassing 80 acres of grounds with 29 historic buildings and numerous archeological ruins. Its fascinating and diverse history makes the Fort Gibson Historical Site an illuminating look into Oklahoma’s past. If you love this state, if you love to travel, if you love to learn new things, if you love to get out of the house, you will love this trip! (And rumor has it we might have our own personal guide to Fort Gibson sites taking the trip with us.) I hope you can come! It will be a fun day – and there just might be some surprise stops as well.
We will meet at 8:15 a.m. in Disciple Hall. We’ll leave by 8:30 and should be home mid-afternoon. You will need $5 for the museum (exception: veterans are free), plus $3 for the bus, and your lunch money. Be sure to sign up for the trip online or at the Welcome Desk.
