Grief Support Ministry

FUMC extends an invitation to those who have experienced the death of a loved on to attend one of two Grief Support Groups.  The purpose of both groups is to offer helpful information and a time of caring and sharing which leads to healing and hope.  It is through the process of grief that we can help one another along the journey of life after the death of a loved one.

Experiencing Grief is offerec to those who have experienced the loss of a spouse, sibling, parent, grandparent, significant other, etc.  A $5 enrollment fee covers the cost of the book which will be given to each participant.  Meets for 10 weeks beginning Wednesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m.

C.L.I.M.B., A Grieving Families’ Suport Group, is offered to support those who have experienced the loss of a child (of any age).   Meets for 10 weeks beginning Wednesday, September 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Life Groups – Christ centered personal growth groups offered on Wesley Wednesdays in the spring and fall and at other times, as interest and leadership allows. Studies include: Search for Significance, Boundaries, Strength for the Journey, etc. Coordinator: Janelle Brammer

Ministry to Senior Adults – Monthly luncheons and activities. Annual trips for fun and missions. Coordinator: Ahnawake Dawson

Faithful Friends - visit those in Nursing Homes/Homebound. Holiday and Special Occasion cards mailed to our. Coordinator: Ahnawake Dawson

Senior Newsletter – mailed to our older members and friends on a monthly basis as way to keep in touch. Editor: Pat Dexter

Prayer Ministry – intercessors meet weekly in the prayer chapel to pray for the Church as the Body of Christ, church members, friends of our church, and the community. Intercessors are also available to gather with those requesting prayer for healing. In addition, prayer requests are publicized through email and by telephone, if requested. The prayer chapel is always available when the church is open for individuals who want to spend time in prayer. Coordinators: Mona McCune, Bill &Sharon Brown.

Stand in the Gap – A team of volunteers serve as a “spiritual family” to a “neighbor” in need of support during a difficult time. Coordinator: Marilyn Howland

Stephen Ministry – a team of persons trained to provide one on one Christian care and support to individuals experiencing a difficult time in life. A class of Stephen Ministers are being trained at the present time. Training begins in January or the fall, depending on the availability of potential Stephen Ministers. Coordinators: LeAnn Reedy, Cathi Keith, Rhonda Mayfield, Norman Graham and Gary Wilson

SOAR – (Supporters of Addiction Recovery) Support and care for individuals and families touched by alcoholism and/or drug abuse with a focus on “prevention and education.” Contact: Tom Varner or Dianna McQuire

Christian Twelve Steps – a study of the Twelve Steps using Celebrate Recovery material. For anyone who desires to grow personally and spiritually. Contacts: Tom and Carolyn Varner

Tape Ministry – weekly CD of morning worship service delivered to homebound and shut-ins. Copies are available by contacting, Coordinator: Larry Craigie

True Heart Ministry – Memory Bears, Prayer Shawl and Quilts are given as a visible reminder of our care, love and prayers. Those who knit and crochet are meeting in conjunction with Wesley Wednesday in the Spring and Fall. Coordinators: Pat Dexter (shawls) and Dan Dexter (bears)

Hospital Visitation – Visits to the hospitalized, convalescing and the bereaved. The church’s three ministers and a team of lay persons provide caring visits to those having surgery, hospitalized, convalescing at home or those who have experienced the death of a loved one. To request a visit, call coordinator: Pastor Janelle Brammer.

Gambling Addiction Recovery/ Support – individual counseling and therapy groups are offered by referral to a licensed and certified counselor free of charge. Contact Janelle Brammer for referral information.
